Welcome to today’s Reconcile Journal digest. We’ve welcomed lots of new subscribers recently, and I’m SO glad you’re here! Welcome.
You may have found Reconcile Journal via The Stack World, whose Worldbuilding workshop series last year really helped me bring this project to life.
For those who have just joined us, here’s a quick catch-up. Reconcile Journal is an online, co-created space that opens access to academic research usually locked behind paywalls (or institutional login requirements). I translate it into visual, accessible digests that bring ideas to the people they’re meant to serve.
We launched at the end of October last year, and share one translated research paper a week. Our conversations start with research, but come to life through collective reasoning, questioning and imagination, allowing Reconcile to be both a living archive and a dialogue.
This connects beautifully to our future plans:
To open up to contributing editors to translate research from their own areas of interest (engineering, sustainability, art disciplines etc.)
Operate a suggestion/submission box, so we can ensure we are translating knowledge that matters to our communities
Pushing ourselves to be even more accessible in the way we communicate research i.e. inclusive design and alternative formats (perhaps videos?)
Creating space for live workshops, online community meetups and roundtable discussions
Start writing up our research communication method + creating a framework so the approach can be replicated
+ disseminating at academic conferences
LASTLY, applying for funding because we need 💰 to widen access & do all of the above (if you can help with this, let me know 👀)
Aren’t you glad you joined us? See below for an index of all 11 research digests added to the archive so far, and stay tuned for #12, being sent out next week.
If you know anyone that might be interested in what we are doing here, please forward this email to them!
until next time
Amberlee from Reconcile Journal
